Meet the Chiropractors of Oldham Chiropractic and Physiotherapy Clinic

Anthony Lavin BSc, MSc, CCEP

Oldham Chiropractor, Anthony LavinI stumbled upon a chiropractic career by chance. As a teenager I loved playing sport and for a while had my heart set on becoming a professional sportsman. But I was plagued by recurrent injuries. I tried quite a few treatments none with any lasting results until my mum brought me along to a chiropractor. Not only did my injuries clear up  but it also opened my eyes as to how the body worked and therefore how to treat it, without the need for drugs or surgery.

I studied at AECC in Bournemouth and have been in private practice in the North West since 2001.

I have maintained my love for sports through playing regularly and also treating a wide variety of athletes from fell runners, to WWE wrestlers to professional cricketers and footballers. I use a combination of manipulation, soft tissue and myofscial techniques including active release technique and dry needling. I  recognize the need for rehabilitation of all injuries.

I also get great enjoyment from treating the very young to the very old. I have a special interest in pregnancy and paediatrics with my youngest patient being around 4 weeks old. My oldest patient to date has been 94!

Chiropractic can benefit everyone right across the age spectrum and improvements occur quickly making it a very rewarding career.

Morten Isnes MSc DC

Oldham Chiropractor, Morten IsnesI was born in Sheffield by Norwegian parents and grew up in Norway from the age of two.  As a baby, I was not sleeping well and nothing seemed to help apart from constantly being carried around. At 11 years of age I saw a chiropractor in Norway after trying a multitude of different approaches with little success. Upon a thorough history and examination, a link was made to the use of a ventouse at birth, which is a form of assisted delivery.  Treatment consisted of chiropractic adjustments and results were noticed fairly quickly. Although my parents were relieved at having it sorted at this stage, they still feel that something could have been done sooner if they had known about chiropractic.

Growing up, I was always active playing all sorts of sports, concentrating on football and ice-hockey.  In the last decade, a new interest in the game of golf has developed. As a result I have enjoyed treating many golfers and helped to improve their game by making them more flexible, stronger and more agile.  Other athletes including footballers, ranging from Sunday league to professionals, squash and tennis players from amateurs to scholarship level and professional rugby players.

Since graduating from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic I have attended several courses to continue learning in several fields.  Dry needling is a very effective way of dealing with soft tissue problems, where acupuncture needles are inserted into the affected area. This is not only effective, but can be less sore than manual pressure to the area. Extremity adjusting is an important part of my treatment plans.  This is because jaw, shoulder girdle or other peripheral joints may contribute or cause problems, even spinal complaints. I have also done the full 100 hour Applied Kinesiology (AK), and proprioceptive chiropractic courses with Dr Simon King. These techniques are very useful to help assess whether deficiencies, toxicities and metals (such as amalgam or piercings) are interfering with the body.

Currently I am undergoing the Certified Chiropractic Wellness Certification program by Dr James Chestnut.  This is an exciting evidence based program looking at the importance of nutrition, exercise and emotional wellness in health and the role chiropractic can play in this. To achieve optimal health, you have to address as many of the different causes of ill-health as possible. Bad germs, bad genes and bad luck is NOT the main cause of illness, bad choices ARE!

Most of all I enjoy creating and developing a relationship with a multitude of people who want to feel and be the best that they can be.  This is the cornerstone for creating health, without a desire for being healthy, it is very difficult to prevent injuries or disease.

I am very excited about being part of the busiest chiropractic clinic in the North West. All the practitioners are pursuing knowledge and learning from each other. This, alongside our friendly and helpful reception staff, create an environment where people get great results.
